Hello all! We’ve got some more catching up to do and it’s late over here so I’ll try to keep it brief!

On the 8th day of our Camino we were supposed to be leaving A Pena and walking approximately 7km to Portomarin. A nice short day. However, my son had other plans. He had been sick for about 3 days at this point and seemed to only be getting worse. I may be a paramedic, but I’m also a first time Mom. Put those two things together and all I could imagine was the worst case scenarios and needed a second opinion. We went to the ER via a very insanely fast taxi driver who I think thought he was an ambulance. We made it safely, and in 1 hour and 10 minutes we were registered, triaged, assessed, diagnosed, treated and sent home. It was unbelievable. If only we could get health care that fast back home!

Thankfully nothing looked too concerning, it was just a matter of time and letting the illness run its course. As of now, he is still somewhat congested and snotty, but overall much much better. Me, on the other hand – now I’m sick. I guess that’s just being a Mom now! After the ER we opted to take a taxi to Portomarin. We didn’t love having to skip a section but it was the most sensible option. I can guarantee we’ve made up for that 7km in our previous trips by taking other longer routes of the Camino. The rest of the day consisted of naps and cuddles which was fine by me!

On our 9th day we walked from Portomarin to Gonzar, a lovely 7.4km. There really isn’t much to report for this day. It rained, as per usual. My son slept lots, which was good considering he was still fairly sick. We had a great dinner at the restaurant attached to our hostel, and lots more cuddles with my son. My Dad has been so helpful all this time, holding my son as needed, feeding him if I have lots to do, and keeping him entertained. He’s a great partner to have on the Camino!

As a quick update for where we are at right now: we will be arriving in Santiago de Compostela (our end point) on Monday. I will likely still be a bit behind by then, but we are excited to be arriving in two short days! Please continue to pray for us as we walk and we will pray for you!
