Hannah:
Hello everyone! Today we completed 19km! It went quite well, despite the intense during the last hour. Even though we had lots of jackets and rain covers we all got wet by the end. Even then, we still enjoyed it! Today was a very flat day so it made the longer km’s feel easier. My Dad left an hour before me to get a head start but because he never stopped I didn’t meet up with him until about five hours later. That’s not our preference but just how it goes some days.
We’ve met so many wonderful people so far, and many willing to help with the baby. Everyone wants to hold him or play with him and offers so much help constantly. People along the Camino are like family and always willing to help. For instance, I was trying to put the rain cover on the stroller and having a hard time. At home no one could figure out how it went on. Some pilgrims stopped to help and between 5 of us we couldn’t get it. Until, a wonderful Italian woman stepped in, grabbed the cover and singlehandedly applied it with ease. She was truly a hero in that moment since the rain poured down shortly after!
We are at a small, quaint albergue with lovely hosts. They made our dinner which was fantastic. Soup, salad, bread, pasta, and of course wine. Even my son loved it! In the morning we have a few flat km’s before a big uphill climb. If I’m not mistaken, we climb 700m over 5km. Because I despise pushing a stroller uphill I’ll be carrying my son, sending the stroller ahead and my Dad will be sending his bag ahead. No point torturing ourselves if we don’t have to! Thankfully I was able to reduce my pack weight by 5lbs, which means I’ll carry a total of 36lbs over approximately 9km. Pray for me!
And now, long awaited bed time. Thank you for following along! God bless,
Buen Camino!

Where did you walk to and from Hannah?
How’s the temperature over there like?
Hi Louis! Unfortunately while we’ve been there it has been around 5-10 degrees. At some times, closer to 15. But it was overall cooler, and very wet. Not the best conditions for walking in but I think I’d take it over walking in 25-30 degree weather!
I’m glad that you able to finish the 19km and with a baby on your back as well! Hopefully, you can get some rest after all that walking.
Thank you! Yes, rest was much needed after that!
Wow, how long did the walk take? The pictures of the scenery look so nice.
That’s also a very big tree I wonder how long it’s been there.
My class and I wish you and your baby the best.
Hi Haman! Thank you for your well wishes and comment. I wonder how old the tree is, too! It was incredible. It must be at least 100 years old I bet! This part of our walk took us 16 days to cover 210km. But we started this 3 yeas ago, and have walked a total of 800km. I think overall it probably took us about 8 weeks total.
Hello Hannah, this is Cole, Mr. Varszegi’s student.
We spent the whole period learning about you and your trip! It was fascinating to become acquainted with your interesting journey. I gained a lot of insight from this opportunity.
I have a few questions if you don’t mind. Have you seen any rare animals along the road? Does the path go through the woods or along mountainsides? Thank you.
We just wanted to inform you and your family that our class will be keeping you in our prayers for your safety in this exciting trek.
Bon voyage!
Hi Cole! Sorry it’s taken so long to reply. Many technical difficulties as well as exhaustion got the best of me.
Thank you for praying for us, we truly appreciate it!
Great questions! I wouldn’t say we have seen any rare animals, but animals, yes. Of course, lots of birds. Some lizards in certain parts. We see lots of cows, and I’ve also seen a donkey and pigs. Oh, and horses! So nothing very rare, but there are definitely animals along the way. The path goes through both! It changes constantly. Earlier in our journey (previous years) we went through lots of vineyards. Now we are back to more mountainous terrain and forest!
Thanks!
Hannah
Wow, 36 pounds is so crazy! Everyone seems so warm and welcoming. Awesome street. Many prayers.
Hi Christian! Yes, 36 pounds is very crazy haha. I would not recommend it! Thank you for your prayers!
