A day in the life of this Peregrino!

I paid close attention, as far as I'm able, too more of the details of today so I could write about the experience.

I awoke in Palas de Rei, Spain at 6:15 am. Otherwise I could have slept for (four!) hours more. After watching my Grandson and packing my backpack I was on the road at 8:19 am. I often leave early as I walk slowly. The stone marker read 66.841 kilometers to Santiago. The elevation was at 500 meters. Palas de Rei is a fairly big city and I walked a few kilometers to leave the city proper. After leaving the city proper the trail narrows and becomes mainly tree lined paths. After a few kilometers there are often café's where many people stop to rest and get coffee. There are a lot of people walking the Camino and very often as they pass we say, "Buen Camino." Along the way quaint small villages pop up. At about 10:23 am Hannah and her son caught up with me. We walked for a while and at 11 am we stopped at a café and met a few people from Canada. The people are always interesting. After many hills and kilometers I sorely needed a coffee. God bless Hannah as she always gets me coffee because I'm too sore and weary to get up after I sit down. After a while I get back on the trail knowing that Hannah and and her son will soon overtake me. Often the path will open up without trees. The views are often amazing! After a lot of going up and then down later in the afternoon we crossed an old stone bridge and we entered Melide. We arrive at 2:48 pm and the marker read 53.156 Km. The elevation was 300 meters. We had travelled about 14 km in about 6 ½ hours.

After checking at out hostel we proceed to our room. Then we unpack all our bags and a suitcase. Suddenly the room is filled with debris. It looks like out bags exploded! We had a dinner of sandwiches we made the night before. James had his last bottle and we gladly went to bed to start again tomorrow.
